According to the APA Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure.
People with anxiety disorders usually have recurring intrusive thoughts or concerns. They may avoid certain situations out of worry. They may also have physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, dizziness or a rapid heartbeat.
Anxiety can lead to avoiding social situations where a person feels uncomfortable this can lead to isolation. Anxiety can present itself prior to an anticipating an event like public speaking or taking an exam. Anxiety can impede an individual’s quality of life because person avoids the situation in order to not feel the anxiety.
Some symptoms of anxiety may include panic attacks, choking feeling, numbness in the limbs, or feeling of a heart attack), worry, fear of social situations, and/or excessive unrealistic worry.
People suffering from Anxiety may have difficulty seeking help from a therapist. Anxiety can stop you from trusting if the therapist could be the right fit.
